Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) technology, developed by RUST-X, offers robust protection against metal corrosion. These inhibitors are released over time from various carriers such as foils, papers, sponges, tapes, stickers, or box emitters, filling the space and forming a protective layer on the metal surfaces.
SMP VCI Technology
The patented SMP VCI (Speedy Moisture Passivation of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) technology by RUST-X USA is designed to meet the needs of the automotive, aerospace, engineering, and metallurgical industries, among others. This technology ensures “clean” anti-corrosion protection, allowing products to be free of residues and ready for further processing, assembly, or storage without requiring additional cleaning.
How VCI Works
RUST-X VCI technology functions by deactivating moisture through the evaporation of chemicals from carriers such as foil, paper, or powder. These chemicals react with moisture to form a multimolecular bond that prevents reactions with the metal surface. Additionally, VCI creates an invisible thin layer on the metal that disrupts the flow of electrons, which causes oxidation. Furthermore, RUST-X VCI adjusts the pH value of the packaged environment to around pH 8-9, creating an alkaline atmosphere that significantly reduces the potential for corrosion over many years.
Rapid and Long-lasting Protection
RUST-X VCI products provide immediate and extended protection. Within the first six hours of application, 20% of the inhibitors remain active in the protected space, while the remaining 80% of volatile compounds are released gradually over up to 15 years. This rapid release is crucial for protecting metals during the initial phase of packaging when moisture condensation is highest. Without swift release of VCI agents, moisture can settle and initiate surface corrosion.
In summary, RUST-X VCI technology offers effective and long-term corrosion protection for metals, making it an ideal choice for industries requiring clean and reliable anti-corrosion solutions.
